Putting Your Food Safety Glasses on

This series of learning modules was designed as an outreach and educational tool to advance critical concepts outlined in the Produce Safety Alliance’s Grower Training instruction manual. The videos are intended to help develop a better understanding of produce safety and how it may impact fruit and vegetable farms. Types of human pathogens that can contaminate fresh produce are identified along with the common ways that produce may become contaminated on the farm. Strategies to prevent and reduce risks of contamination are provided. The goal being for all growers to understand the value of committing to the implementation of food safety practices regardless of the size of their operation by putting on their food safety lenses.

This video series has been created by the Pennsylvania Farmers Union in partnership with the Local Food Safety Collaborative, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, and Chesapeake Harvest.

One Farm Readiness

These two modules were produced to help demystify compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) for small scale farmers and producers. A small rural farm in eastern Pennsylvania and a small urban farm in Baltimore Maryland were visited by a team of food safety educators and regulators with funding provided by the Local Food Safety Collaborative, an FDA funded initiative lead by National Farmers Union. The videos were created by the Pennsylvania Farmers Union in collaboration with Chesapeake Harvest, PA Department of Agriculture, University of Maryland Extension, Whitelock Community Farm and the Josie Porter Farm.
